PUBLIC METROPOLITAN HOSPITALS — TRADES STAFF
515. Hon ALANNA CLOHESY to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to carpenters, electricians, fitters, plumbers and
painters currently employed in existing public metropolitan hospitals under the
WA health and building services agreement.
(1) Will there
be any forced redundancies of the above employees when the new Fiona Stanley
Hospital, Perth Children's Hospital and Midland Health Campus open or
will they be guaranteed continued employment?
(2) Will the
positions at Fiona Stanley Hospital be run and employed by Serco or the
Department of Health?
(3) How many of these jobs will
transfer to the new hospitals?
(4) Will staff
unwilling to transfer be provided with the option of redeployment elsewhere
with the same wages and conditions within the public sector?
(5) For staff
willing to transfer, will the minister guarantee no loss in wages and/or
conditions and entitlements?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) No forced redundancies are planned.
(2) Serco.
(3) Not
applicable.
(4) Where
redeployment is necessary, the provisions of the Public Sector Management
(Redeployment and Redundancy) Regulations 1994 will apply.
(5) No staff will
be required to transfer. If staff are considering employment opportunities with
the prospective employer, Serco is responsible for advising applicants of the
employment conditions.
