Hon Donna Faragher asked about the number of properties subject to conveyance duty within specific value brackets from 2001-02 to 2006-07. Hon Kate Doust responded that the data isn't readily available in the requested format and would require a program to extract, costing $1,000.

PROPERTY CONVEYANCE DUTY
I refer to property conveyance duty collected by the state.  For the financial years 2001-02 to 2006-07 inclusive, how many properties upon which stamp duty was levied were in each of the following property value categories: zero to $80 000; $80 001 to $100 000; $100 001 to $250 000; $250 001 to $500 000; and $500 001 and above? I thank the member for some notice of this question.  It is not possible to extract conveyance duty data in a manner that will specifically identify real property in the value ranges required.  For example, conveyance duty chargeable on the sale of a business that includes real property would be recorded in the Office of State Revenue systems based on the value of the dutiable property involved.  It would not be disaggregated in the system to separately reflect the value of real property and other business property.  This is because the system is designed to enable the effective and efficient assessment of duty for which such a breakdown is not required.  Accordingly, subject to writing a program to extract the relevant data, it would be possible to extract only the number of transactions for each of the value categories based on the total value of the transaction.  It will not be possible to separately identify those transactions involving real property.  As this work will cost around $1 000 and take some time to complete, should the member wish to be provided with data on the basis outlined, it is requested that this question be placed on notice.
