Hon. Groenewald questions the Minister for Health regarding the use of GnRH agonists as puberty blockers for minors with gender dysphoria, drawing a parallel with their use as chemical castration for sex offenders. The Minister's response deflects responsibility, stating the Child and Adolescent Health Service is unaware of medications used by the Department of Justice.

GnRH agonists
522. Hon Maryka Groenewald to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the use of gonadotropin releasing hormone
(GnRH) agonists as puberty blockers for minors diagnosed with gender
dysphoria.
(1) Is the minister aware that courts in Western
Australia can mandate the use of GnRH agonists as chemical castration drugs for
convicted sex offenders?
(2) Are the same formulations of GnRH agonists
used for sex offenders being prescribed to minors with gender dysphoria?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has
been provided by the Minister for Health.
(1)–(2) The Child and Adolescent Health
Service is unaware of medication used by the Department of Justice as this is
out of the scope of the health service.
