ALBANY — ANZAC CENTENARY FUNDING
427. Mr P.B. WATSON to the Premier:
I refer to the Labor Party's centenary of Anzac
policy.
(1) Does the Premier endorse our $17 million funding
allocation?
(2) Will Anzac commemoration events be planned throughout the
state as proposed by this policy?
(3) Will the Premier be supporting our plans for an Anzac
interpretive centre in Albany?
(4) Will the
Premier be supporting our plans for upgrades to Albany's Mount Adelaide
and Mount Clarence?

(1)–(4)
I do not think the proposal for an interpretive centre was a Labor Party plan;
I thought the community developed that.
Mr P.B. Watson : It
was a lack of your efforts in doing anything, so we put up our own plan.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
If the member wants to make a speech, he can do that later.
Mr P.B. Watson :
You arrogant little man.
The SPEAKER :
Member for Albany, I formally call you to order.
Mr P.B. Watson : He
asked me a question.
The SPEAKER : I
formally call you to order for the second time, member for Albany. I do not
need to hear from you at all. You have asked a question of the Premier. I
expect that you might want to hear the answer.
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
The proposals for an interpretive centre have come from the alliance in Albany,
which includes the City of Albany and the RSL, and they have had a number of
discussions with government, including with me. Another important proposal is
for a whole lot of physical improvements to Mount Clarence, which are necessary
for the celebration of the event. Beyond and above that, there is also the
responsibility of coordinating the event itself. The government has considered
all those issues and we will be providing support to the Anzac celebration—the
departure of the fleet for Anzac Cove. The government will provide details of
that shortly.
