(1-3) The Country Sub Centre Model outlined in Schedule 4 Section 21 of the St John Ambulance contract specifies the most appropriate staffing model for a sub centre. This is based on the number of cases undertaken in the previous financial year, which varies.
The optimum number of volunteers per country sub centre is dependent on a broad range of factors. This includes factors specific to the area such as population demographics and seasonal adjustments to population size. It also includes factors specific to the sub centre such as the number of paramedics, whether regular volunteers are transient (for example local teachers who may generally be away during school holidays), and whether multiple volunteers are from the same family or industry (which may increase the risk that they are all unavailable at the same time).
