UNAUTHORISED CLEARING
728. Hon DIANE EVERS to the Minister for Environment:
I
refer to the clearing of native vegetation for which a permit is required under
the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
(1) How many
instances of unauthorised clearing of native vegetation have been reported to
the department in each of the years from 2015–16 to 2018–19 to
date for —
(a) the south west region; and
(b) the entire state?
(2) How many of
the instances of unauthorised clearing in (a) and (b) have received penalties,
financial or otherwise, applied under the act?

Environment, I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) (a) The
Department of Water and Environmental Regulation has received the following
number of complaints or reports of
unauthorised clearing in the south west region: in 2015–16, 22; in 2016– 17,
28; in 2017–18, 23; and in 2018–19, 25.
(b) The
Department of Water and Environmental Regulation has received the following
number of complaints or reports of unauthorised clearing in the entire state:
in 2015–16, 190; in 2016–17, 204; in 2017–18, 176; and
in 2018–19, 219.
(2) A total of
four prosecutions and 18 vegetation conservation notices were issued under the Environmental
Protection Act 1986 for confirmed cases of unauthorised clearing. In
addition, the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation issued 49
letters of warning.
