In relation to the Forest Management Plan 2014-2023 (FMP) and forest management to achieve ecological sustainability, I ask —
(1) Does the Minister support the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) position that sustained yield means the same as sustainable yield?
(2) If yes to (1), in what way(s) are they the same?
(3) For what forest products does the FMP aim to achieve sustained yield?
(4) Does sustained yield as used for the FMP mean (a) non-declining quality and (b) non-declining quantity of these forest products?
(5) If no to (4)(a) or (4)(b) why not?
(6) Does the FMP aim to achieve sustained yield in perpetuity?
(7) If no to (6) —
(a) why not; and
(b) over what period of time does the FMP aim to achieve sustained yield?

(1) - (2) The terms 'sustained yield' and 'sustainable yield' are often used interchangeably. The
Conservation and Land Management Act 1984
and the
Draft Forest Management Plan 2014-2023
(Draft FMP) use the term 'sustained yield'.
(3) The Draft FMP provides for a sustained yield of first and second grade sawlogs for jarrah and karri.
(4) - (5) For the purpose of the Draft FMP the sustained yield was computed as a non-declining yield for first and second grade sawlogs. The minimum size and quality specifications for these logs are defined in the glossary in the Draft FMP.
(6) - (7)  Sustained yield is defined in the glossary of the Draft FMP as
the first and second grade sawlog yield that a forest can produce for an extended period (to at least the year 2070) at a given intensity of management
