MAROOMBA AIRLINES
708. Hon PETER COLLIER to
the Leader of the House representing the Premier:
I refer to question —
Several members interjected.
Hon Sue Ellery : Let your leader speak. I can't
hear him.
Hon PETER COLLIER : It is worth listening; it is going
to bring down the government.
I refer to question without notice 664 asked on Tuesday, 25 June.
(1) Will the Premier confirm that the contract with
Maroomba Airlines allows for the use of the Beechcraft King Air B200
VH-MQZ for 33 hours per month and the Raytheon Hawker 850XP VH-MQY for 42 hours
per month?
(2) If no to (1), what is the number of hours of use each
month for each aircraft?
(3) Has the
government exceeded the number of hours per month under the contract with
Maroomba Airlines since March 2017?
(4) If yes to
(3), in which months were the number of hours exceeded and what was the
additional cost in turn for those months?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(4)
I wish to advise the member that the contract with Maroomba Airlines does not
include any restrictions on the number of hours the planes are used. The
monthly limit on hours was a condition of the finance leases, which is different from the contract held with Maroomba to
operate and maintain the aircraft. The issue surrounding hours of use
therefore no longer applies, as the planes are now owned by the government.
I would like to remind members
that the government has commenced a procurement exercise for an operations and
maintenance contractor and members should be wary of promoting the interests of
any potential tenderer.
