was the reason for 127 applications been declined if they satisfied the
criteria in paragraph (4)(a-d) of the direction; and (b) for
each week for the months of May, June, July, August and September 2020, please
identify: (i) the
number of applications received by Western Australia Police Force, by application class; (ii) the
number of applications approved and declined, by application class; and (iii) the number of applications declined as a direct
result of the COVID-19 pandemic?

The Western Australian Police Force advise:
(a) Following the release of the Closure of Gun Shops Direction (No 2), a review of all declined applications identified 127 applications that potentially met the criteria set out by the second direction, namely:
(a) a primary producer;
(b) a vermin eradication professional;
(c) an Aboriginal person who is entitled to exercise a native title right to hunt over particular land and waters; or
(d) any other person the State Emergency Coordinator or a person authorised by the State Emergency Coordinator for the purpose, approves, whether orally or in writing.
The identified applications were reinstated and subsequently followed the normal assessment and approval processes.
