Alcoa—Mining activities—Noncompliance
647. Hon Jess Beckerling to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for State Development:
I refer to
noncompliances—audit codes 60-076783:M.2.5 and 60-076783:M.3—reported
in Alcoa's 2025 Mining Management Plan—Compliance
Assessment Report published in June this year.
(1) Can the minister please provide the following
for each of the two noncompliances referenced above:
(a) exact coordinates of each drilled hole and
site of native vegetation disturbance referenced in the noncompliances;
(b) the date each incident of noncompliance took
place; and
(c) the date each incident of noncompliance was reported
to the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation;
(2) Can the minister also provide details about
what action is being taken in response to each noncompliance, as required in
the ministerial approval conditions for the 2023–27 Mining and
Management Program?

notified the Minister for State Development about the first non-compliance
event on 23 October 2024 and the second non-compliance event on 29 April 2025.
2. Following
receipt of the first notification, officers from the Department of Water and
Environmental Regulation (DWER) and Department of Energy and Economic
Diversification inspected the relevant sites to confirm the non-compliances.
DWER inspected
the second non-compliance event.
In response to
these non-compliances, the Minister for State Development has advised Alcoa
that he has requested that the Bauxite Strategic Executive Committee address
this matter as part of providing him advice to inform consideration of
conditions to accompany any approval of the 2025-2029 MMP.
