The Department of Housing and Works advises
1) The Percent for Art Program provides for up to 1% of capital works projects greater than $2 M to be used for the procurement of public art:
(a) January 2001 - December 2005: $4,738,490 expended
(b) January 2005 - December 2006: $2,619,428 expended
As these dates overlap, the following expenditure is provided for clarity:
(b) January 2006 - December 2006: $1,545,685 expended
2) During the period January 2001 - December 2006, 202 artists or entities representing artists (such as aboriginal artist corporations or groups of artists) have benefited from the policy.
3) The Department of Housing and Works and the Department of Culture and the Arts jointly manage the Percent for Art Program, which was established in 1989.
The Department of Culture and the Arts' web site displays details of a large sample of art projects.
The Department of Housing and Works maintains financial, contractual and file records of individual art projects. Much of the data for early projects resides in archived systems and files. A comprehensive report on the Percent for Art Scheme published as a booklet and titled "Integrating Views" was undertaken by the Department of Culture and the Arts with support from the Department of Housing and Works in 2002/2003.
