I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(3) The Minister for Education and Training has visited Governor Stirling Senior High School at the invitation of the Labor candidate for Hasluck, Sharryn Jackson, to view the condition of the school. The Carpenter government is continuing to address the abject neglect of government schools under the previous Liberal-National government, with a record $1 billion investment in maintenance and capital works during this term of office. In fact, spending on capital works in 2007-08, excluding commonwealth grants, is more than 83 per cent higher than in 2000-01 under the former Liberal-National government. The government is continuing to assess the needs of all schools, including Governor Stirling Senior High School, in determining future capital works investment. The government could do more were it not for the pitiful contribution of the commonwealth government in this area. In 2007-08, the commonwealth provided a meagre 15c in every dollar of capital expenditure on Western Australian government schools. Members opposite should hang their heads in shame.
