(a) The Department of Regional Development and Lands (RDL) was advised by Tourism Western Australia (WA) on 5 December 2011 that the North West Festival (referred to at that time as the
Port City Annual
) was being assessed by Eventscorp for consideration as an event under the Royalties for Regions Regional Events Program (REP).
(b) RDL did not seek support from other government/department/ ministerial offices.
(c) The total Royalties for Regions funding allocated to the Town of Port Hedland for North West Festival is $660 000 over three years comprising $150 000 in 2012/13; $230 000 in 2013/14 and $280 000 in 2014/15. No funding has been provided by RDL.
(d) RDL does not have a contract with Sunset Events for this event. Funding contracts for the event are the responsibility of Tourism WA.
(e) RDL has not had any direct correspondence with Sunset Events regarding the North West Festival.
(f-h) As the contract comes under the portfolio responsibility of the Minister for Tourism, it is recommended the question be redirected to the relevant Minister.
