(1) I refer to the Merredin Railway Water Tank, bearing the advertisement "Kalgoorlie Bitter", and ask: (a) what steps are being taken to preserve and retain the tank or ensure its replacement with a suitable representation ; and (b) what contribution is the Government prepared to make towards the cost of preserving or replacing the tank ? (2) If the Government is not prepared to make any financial or other contribution towards preserving or replacing this item of local heritage, why not?

(a) With the support of the Public Transport Authority (PTA), the Shire of Merredin is currently investigating if the Merredin Railway Water Tank can be strengthened, enabling it to remain in place or whether it must be removed. If it is to be removed, replacement of the tank is an option that will be considered.
(b) The PTA has advised the Shire of Merredin it is willing to fund the repair work. It is too premature for the PTA to consider replacing the tank.
(2) Not applicable.
