CARNARVON FASCINE
393. Mr V.A. CATANIA to the Minister for Transport:
I have a supplementary question.
Given that the fascine waterway is silted up and all that work has been undone
by the ex–tropical cyclone, and that vessels cannot use it, does the
minister acknowledge and take responsibility for the ecological disaster that
may potentially be with us for the next few months if this matter is not
addressed?
Several members interjected.

We
have been working really well with the Shire of Carnarvon on this issue. The
Department of Transport has been engaged to help fund the detailed report to
determine the options. Until the department became involved, things were being talked about, but it was the
department that actually did the work to determine the best option. We will
continue to engage with the Shire of Carnarvon. I did not cause that
cyclone and it has been only a few days since its impact has been felt. We will continue to work with the
Shire of Carnarvon, because I think that everyone in the community and
everyone in this house wants the fascine to open so that it can be enjoyed by
the Carnarvon community.
