(1) How many laptop, notebook and palm computers from each department and agency within the Minister’s portfolio have been reported stolen for the 12 months from 30 June 2009 to 30 June 2010?
(2) What was the total value of the computers that were lost or stolen?
(3) Did any of these computers contain information that could be regarded as sensitive?
(4) What steps have been taken to ensure that any commercial or sensitive information was not compromised?
(5) Was the loss or theft of any of these computers reported to the police; and
(a) if yes, when were these reports made;
(b) of those reported, what has been the outcome; and
(c) if any were not reported to the police, why not?
(6) What steps, if any, have been put into place with a view to eliminating, or at least reducing, these losses; and
(a) when were these steps put into place?

Due to the Cabinet re-shuffle, as of 14 December 2010 the portfolio of 'Minister Assisting the Minister for Transport' no longer exists.
The Department of Regional Development and Lands, LandCorp, Gascoyne, Mid West, Pilbara, Great Southern, Kimberley, Goldfields-Esperance, South West and Wheatbelt Development Commissions:
(1)   Nil.
(2)   - (6) Not Applicable.
Peel Development Commission:
1)      One - Blackberry SmartPhone.
2)      $993
3)      No.
4)      Not Applicable.

a)      April 2010. Police report No. 230410152586036
b)      Item was not recovered. Insurance claim made.
c)      Not applicable.
6)      It was a one off loss at a regional airport. Incident was reviewed and processes do not need amending.
Landgate:
(1)   One laptop was reported stolen in the period from 30 June 2009 to 30 June 2010.
(2)   The written down value of one stolen computer was $186.44 and five lost computers $901.
(3)   It was confirmed there was no sensitive information involved.
(4)   Laptop encryption is currently being rolled out to ensure all information is protected in case of loss or theft.
(5)   The theft was reported to the police.
(a) The report was made as soon as the theft was discovered on 30 May 2010;
(b) The laptop was recovered by police and subsequently returned.
(c)  The five lost laptops were revealed during the annual fixed asset stocktake.  Investigation revealed sufficient circumstantial evidence that the laptops were disposed of in the normal way, without the appropriate paperwork being completed.
(6)   Procedures have been reviewed, updated and communicated to staff.  Regular monitoring is undertaken to ensure procedures are adhered to.
(a)    Updated procedures and monitoring were put in place as part of the stocktake review in October 2010.
