DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND WORKS — JANUBURU SIX SEASONS ESTATE
I refer to a news report on ABC Kimberley radio on 16 May 2008, which indicated that the Department of Housing and Works had passed in four blocks that it was allocated in the Januburu Six Seasons Estate. (1) Will the minister confirm that this is the case? (2) Why was the allocation not taken up? (3) To what extent will this affect the public housing waiting list in Broome? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The Department of Housing and Works advises as follows. (1)-(3) The department did not purchase four lots in stage 3 of the Januburu estate release due to the lots’ high sale price. The department is in discussions with LandCorp about access to affordable lots for social housing in its land releases. The Minister for Planning and Infrastructure has indicated that lots in the next release will be offered to the department at 25 per cent less than the standard market price. The state government is on track to deliver at least 124 extra social housing dwellings over the next four years.
