I refer to the State of Cockburn Sound Report 2014 and ask: (a) what action did the Minister take in respect to the Report's advice that: with respect to toxicants, no major surveys have been conducted since 2006–07 (toxicants in sediments) and 2008 (toxicants in water)…There are, therefore, no broad and ongoing toxicant-focussed environmental monitoring programs in place in Cockburn Sound ; (b) has the Minister specifically asked the Cockburn Sound Management Council to reinstate surveys of toxicants in sediments; and (c) has the Minister specifically asked the Cockburn Sound Management Council to reinstate surveys of toxicants in water?

(a)-(c) The new Council will consider the monitoring and research/investigative study priorities for Cockburn Sound as part of its strategic planning. Consistent with its Terms of Reference, the Council will provide me with advice on monitoring of water quality and associated environmental values.
I recently approved an update to the Terms of Reference for the Cockburn Sound Management Council and new members were appointed to the Council from 1 January 2016.
Under its Terms of Reference, the Council is responsible for the oversight and coordination of environmental monitoring and research/investigative studies in Cockburn Sound.
