(2) Copies of the 2001 research entitled ‘Family Reunification and Drug Use by Parents’ are available from the Department and have previously been distributed to stakeholders. The research found that: · drug use by parents is a serious issue in family reunification · there are various factors which workers thought would affect family reunification. The research also discussed service models which could address these issues. The latter research entitled ‘Report on Consultation with Young People in Care as a Result of Parental Drug or Alcohol Use’ covers a range of issues including reunification. The report is yet to be released by CYPCAC. The findings identified the difficulties of reunification in circumstances where parents were still experiencing substance use problems, and also noted that access to support services was essential.
