SOUTHERN RAIL LINK, TUNNEL
Given the Government’s preference to tunnel the southern rail link under William Street in the city, which would reduce the number of lanes for motor vehicle traffic along William Street between St Georges Terrace and The Esplanade from five lanes to two - (1) Will the minister advise how traffic will flow out of the city onto Riverside Drive, The Esplanade, Stirling Highway and the Kwinana Freeway, and into the busport, from two lanes? (2) Will the minister advise how much it will cost to redirect traffic around the rail tunnel out of the city, and have these additional costs been factored into the total cost of the southern rail link? Ms MacTIERNAN

(1)-(2) I am a very patient person, which is fortunate. As I have told this House on several occasions, the Government currently has an independent committee looking into the route that the rail line will take between the Narrows Bridge and Wellington Street. As I have explained to the member before, the committee’s report will be available in early February. At the same time, work is being done to ascertain how the final configuration of the various options might play out and what the requirements will be during the construction process.
