(4) Information regarding the provision of mental health services to the prison population has in the past been scarce due to the varied nature of services provided and the often-transient population. The introduction of an Electronic Health Information system, presently under development with suitable data gathering and information exchange will be able to provide more accurate information. I recognise that the prison population has a disproportionate occurrence of mental health issues and in conjunction with the Minister for Health, am exploring a number of options to provide better targeted health and offender services for prisoners with mental health issues, Acquired Brain Injury and intellectual disability.
