CHILD PROTECTION — KUNUNURRA
On Tuesday I asked a question about recent events in Kununurra in which children as young as six years of age were roaming the streets at night. The minister replied that on Wednesday, 12 March, she met with the director general and the acting executive director for country services, during which time they held discussions concerning Kununurra and the east Kimberley region. What was the outcome of those discussions with regard to the children roaming the streets? Hon SUE ELLERY

I will have to cast my mind back, because we discussed a range of matters about the Kimberley. To the best of my recollection, what we discussed about that particular incident was that the department had responded well and was working with the police collaboratively in literally knocking on doors—I think that was the expression used—to chase up the parents. That is my best recollection, although I am happy to check whether anything else that is relevant was raised.
