I refer to the Minster’s statement in Parliament on Thursday, 1 September 2011 regarding the $2.5 million marketing campaign by Tourism Western Australia and China Southern Airlines to promote direct flights to Perth, and I ask:
(a) could the Minister please itemise the funding Tourism Western Australia and China Southern Airlines has spent on this marketing campaign;
(b) what are the expected financial outcomes from the marketing campaign to the Western Australian economy; and
(c) what is the expected increase in numbers of Chinese tourists to Western Australia as a direct result of this marketing campaign?

(a) Tourism Western Australia, Tourism Australia and China Southern Airlines have commenced a $2.5 million marketing campaign in China to promote China Southern Airlines' flights to Perth. The campaign includes expenditure on the following activities:
Familiarisation tours of WA for key media and travel agents from China - $80,000
Consumer roadshows - $85,000
Trade training - $160,000
Consumer advertising in press - $150,000
Consumer advertising online - $175,000
Consumer advertising outdoors - $1,850,000
(b) Tourism Western Australia is undertaking joint marketing activities with China Southern Airlines over a period of three years. The increase in visitor spending from the Chinese market is estimated to be $55 million over three years.
(c) The increase in Chinese visitors to Western Australia over the three years is estimated to be 41,000.
