NATIONAL FIREARMS AGREEMENT
917. Hon RICK MAZZA to the Attorney General
representing the Minister for Police:
I draw the minister's
attention to a recent temporary ban on the importation of the Adler A110
shotgun amid comments from law enforcement and the media that they should have
been restricted in the 1996 buyback, along with semi-automatic firearms and
pump-action shotguns, because they have the capacity for rapid fire and are
alleged to represent a significant risk. Lever-action rifles and shotguns,
including those with magazine capacity of more than five rounds, have remained
continuously available since the 1880s and owned under category A and B
licences since 1996.
Can the minister please advise
whether the Western Australian government will support these restrictions as
part of the national firearms agreement review, given that no significant
incidents have occurred using these firearms?
