ELIZABETH QUAY —
CHEVRON OFFICE TOWER — PREMIER'S COMMENTS
871. Ms R. SAFFIOTI to the Minister for
Planning:
I again refer to the question: was the Premier correct when he said
today, ''Yes, I have agreed to it. I agreed to it some months ago'' ?

AnswerView source ↗

Of course the Premier is correct; there is nothing incorrect in what he
said at all. He has had discussions with Chevron at a high level —
Ms
R. Saffioti interjected.
The SPEAKER : I call you to order for the second time.
Mr J.H.D. DAY : I have outlined the process. Of course the
Premier was correct.
Just while I am on my feet, I might also refer very briefly to another
aspect of history. One of the member for West Swan's predecessors as
shadow planning minister —
Mr M. McGowan : We want to ask question 6.
Mr J.H.D. DAY : It was actually the Leader of the
Opposition who made these comments, so I am glad he interjected there. It was
back in 2009, when the opposition had a different attitude to this project that
it now so vehemently opposes because it is actually being achieved. Back when
the then government was reviewing the nature of the project and there was a
slight delay as a result of that, the Leader of the Opposition, as he now is, the
former shadow Minister for Planning, said —
''The
creation of yet another ministerial taskforce is a waste of money and will
delay a project that will create thousands of jobs and reinvigorate the State's
capital city,'' ...
He further went on to say —
''This is an appalling
decision that will impact on Perth for decades to come.''
''It will have severe
repercussions on jobs in construction and the service industry, it will impact
on tourism and small business—it is a truly terrible result for Perth.''
What does the Leader of the
Opposition have to say about that now?
