I refer to all portfolio areas in respect to it’s vehicle fleet and ask, for the years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 -
(1) How many vehicles were purchased or leased for it’s fleet?
(2) In respect to (1), how many were gas powered?
(3) Does the Minister’s Department have an active policy of purchasing or leasing gas powered vehicles?
(4) If so, can the Minister table the policy?
(5) If not, why not?

However, the Member should note the policy regarding LPG-fuelled vehicle relates to operational fleet vehicles that are "eligible vehicles", which are essentially six-cylinder passenger vehicles and their utility variants. The requirement is that, where such vehicles are replaced at the end of their lease terms by another six-cylinder vehicles, then 25% of such vehicles should be LPG-powered. There are some exceptions allowed on a business case basis, a significant example being police vehicles. The most recent advice demonstrates in aggregate, the purchase of LPG powered vehicles has, at 27%, slightly exceeded the target. I refer the Member to tabled paper no 402 which details the purchase of vehicles purchased and leased through the State Fleet in 2003 and 2004.
