As part of the Methamphetamine Action Plan, the State Government has committed to expand drug services into regional and rural areas.
I am advised that:
$9.306 million in operational funding has been allocated in the 2018-19 Budget to contract services in the South West from service providers for the provision of low medical and residential rehabilitation beds. This will allow for the operationalisation of up to 33 beds commencing January 2019. Removing the requirement for any capital works allows the purchasing of these services to be brought forward by 2 years. This means Western Australian’s will get access to these services sooner. The Mental Health Commission will undertake a Request for Tender process to purchase the services.
Funding of $200,000 was allocated to the Mental Health Commission, as part of the 2017-18 Budget, to undertake planning and consultation to identify the most appropriate mix of alcohol and other drug prevention; community treatment; and community bed based services required in the Kimberley. The Mental Health Commission will present a submission to Government for consideration as part of the 2019-20 Budget.
There is currently one residential rehabilitation service in the South West funded by the Mental Health Commission. The service, which is located in Nannup, provides 14 residential alcohol and drug treatment beds and two low medical withdrawal beds.
There are currently two residential alcohol and other drug rehabilitation services in the Kimberley; Ngnowar-Aerah in Wyndham which has 22 beds, and Milliya Rumurra in Broome which also has 22 beds, funded by the Commonwealth Government.
