(a)-(b)  Main Roads uses the Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS) to manage traffic signal timings in Western Australia.
This system uses sensors at every signalised intersection to monitor vehicle movements and the signal timings are adjusted accordingly to maintain the most efficient flow of traffic.
The majority of traffic signals on State routes are synchronised, however at different times of the day, that synchronisation may be removed to accommodate changing traffic demands and to ensure optimal intersection operation.
