LIVE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY — SUPPORT PROGRAM
45. Ms L. METTAM to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Can
the Premier guarantee that no taxpayer funds have been provided to Brian Burke
or any individuals associated with him through the Getting the Show Back on the
Road package?

AnswerView source ↗

I do not know whether Brian Burke or
anyone else had any involvement with the organisation. We dealt with the
organisation and the industry direct. None of my ministers and none of their
officers have had communication with the individual in question. None of the
organisations that we met with had the individual to whom the member referred
sitting alongside them as part of those conversations.
Ms L. Mettam : Are you sure
about that?
Mr R.H. COOK : I am absolutely
sure about that, member.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please!
Mr
R.H. COOK : I invite the member to
implement a similar arrangement; and, if any member of the Liberal Party seeking preselection has had contact with the individual whom the member for
Vasse just referred, perhaps she should stop them from running for Parliament.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please!
Ms R. Saffioti interjected.
The SPEAKER : Order, please!
Ms R. Saffioti interjected.
The SPEAKER : Quieten down,
please.
Mr R.H. COOK : I would ask the
member for Vasse to take a similar stand on integrity when dealing with people
in the community. If any member of the Liberal Party seeking preselection, for
any seat, has had dealings with the individual in question, perhaps she should
take a stand as the leader and stop that person from being preselected.
Several members interjected.
The
SPEAKER : I do not know; maybe the
Premier would like to ask members to quieten down if he wants to be heard.
Mr
R.H. COOK : Getting the Show Back
on the Road was a fantastic program that ensured we had live entertainment acts filling venues in Perth and right across regional WA. It was a celebration
of the great work that we as a community did to get on top of COVID-19. It
saved jobs. It saved companies. It saved livelihoods. It was put together with absolutely integrity. I place the
integrity of my government compared with that member's party any day.
