Steps Towards Caring program
101. Hon Michelle Boylan to the minister representing
the Minister for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence:
I refer to the Steps
Towards Caring program in the Peel region, which engages more than 500
high-risk fathers each year in a district where 3,468 family violence offences
were recorded in 2024–25 and the pilot funding for which is due to expire in
2026.
(1) Has the government made a decision on
whether the program will continue beyond the current pilot funding?
(2) Has the Department of Communities
been asked to transition the program into a core funded service?
(3) If no to (3), what will happen to the
referrals once the funding expires?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. The following response has
been provided by the Minister for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence.
(1)–(3) The Steps Towards Caring pilot is funded
by the Western Australia Police Force and the Department of Justice through a
grant agreement that ceases in August 2026. Further continuation of the program
is currently being considered.
