I refer to the producer levies that have been set to fund biosecurity threats in Western Australia and the 20 cent levy imposed on cattle producers. In relation to the article entitled
Levies Rolled Out
, published in the Countryman on 15 July 2010, and, in particular, the statement that funds will be used for modest surveillance programs for bovine Johne’s disease (BJD) and enzootic bovine leucosis (EBL), I ask that the Minister advise what would be considered a modest surveillance program.

The amount of $65,000 has been allocated by the Industry Management Committee from the Industry Funding Scheme (Cattle) for surveillance programs for bovine Johne's disease in cattle and enzootic bovine leucosis in dairy cattle. This will provide for laboratory testing for both diseases and compensation for stock slaughtered to test for bovine Johne's disease.
