I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) State road funds provided through Main Roads are as follows: 2006-07, $318 616; 2007-08, $544 963; 2008-09, $408 593; and 2009-10, $437 099. (2) The inventory of roads maintained by the Town of Port Hedland is used in assessing the council’s needs. It takes into account both annual and recurrent maintenance costs and reconstruction at the end of the road’s useful life. Various inventory data such as road statistics, costs and work standards are used in a model by the Western Australian Local Government Grants Commission to calculate the annual asset preservation expenditure needs of the roads. The formula is also used to distribute other funding grants provided to local governments.
