1181 and the recent announcement made by the Minister for Racing and Gaming
about funding to expand Geraldton Hospital.
(1) Is the
minister aware of this funding commitment and the details of what it will
include; and, if yes, how was the minister made aware?
(2) Did the
minister or his department approve this commitment prior to the announcement
being made?
(3) Can the
minister confirm that funding is available for this commitment in the Health
budget in the 2016–17 financial year and/or forward estimates?
(4) Given this
announcement, will work on the review of health services in Geraldton and the
midwest continue; and, if yes, when will the report be made public?
(5) When will this project, as
announced by the Minister for Racing and Gaming, commence?

the minister's visit to Geraldton in July this year, the minister
announced the redevelopment of Geraldton Hospital as a priority and requested
detailed scoping work to commence to inform future investment decisions. The
minister was made aware of the National Party's funding commitment for
Geraldton regional hospital following the announcement on 28 October 2016, and
welcomes its support for the proposed expansion, which is currently being
progressed. The potential redevelopment includes an expanded emergency
department and high-dependency unit, additional inpatient beds, an extra
operating theatre and new acute mental health facilities. The minister
continues to actively pursue the development of plans that will determine time
frames for the project, in order to secure a positive outcome for the people of
Geraldton and the midwest. The delivery of health services in all regions,
including the midwest, is regularly reviewed to align with demand and models of
care.
