Homelessness—St Bart's
32. Ms Libby Mettam to the Minister for Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence :
I refer to St Bart's
being forced to close its women's service by 1 July due to the government
ceasing its funding.
(1)
Why could the government not find the funding to continue this important
service?
(2)
Will the minister commit to securing the funding St Bart's requires to continue
to offer accommodation and services to these 28 vulnerable women?
Several members
interjected.
The Speaker: Members!

Thanks for the question. Unfortunately, the member has the wrong minister,
because the St Bart's service is a homelessness service and does not fall under
the family and domestic violence portfolio area. The member is also wrong in her
question in that it was not that we stopped funding. St Bart's was looking for
additional funding to do some redevelopment and that was not forthcoming. We
are also working with another provider to ensure that those women and children who
are housed in that centre are relocated before the service closes.
