(a)-(g) The project is currently in the early stages of options development and the METRONET office is reviewing tender submissions for the Business Case Adviser and Engineering and Land Use Planning consultants. As planning work progresses, opportunities for community consultation will be identified.
The Minister notes comments made by the Member for Darling Range’s Liberal Party Colleagues including the Leader of the Opposition who stated on 21 June 2018 that the Byford Rail Extension “…will bring criminals down to Byford”. The Minister also notes comments made on 21 June 2018 by the Member for Bateman that METRONET “…appears to be chasing urban sprawl” and the Member for Churchlands that METRONET projects are “…narcissistic, grandiose monuments…” and “…a white elephant transport system…”.
It is also noted that the Member for Darling Range failed to progress the Byford Rail Extension during her eight and a half years as the Member for East Metropolitan Region and under the former Liberal-National Government, the Byford Rail Extension would not be built until 2050.
No work had been undertaken on this project under the previous government.
