I thank the honourable member for some
notice of the question. On behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing,
I provide the following answer on behalf of the Minister for Energy.
(1) (a) Since March 2021, 300 megawatts/1 000 megawatt
hours have been commissioned or are being commissioned for commencement
in October 2024, as per the market capacity cycle. These facilities include the
100-megawatts/200-megawatt hours Kwinana battery energy storage systems 1
project and the 200-megawatts/800-megawatt hours Kwinana battery energy storage
systems 2 project. Over 950 megawatts of rooftop solar PV generation has been
added to the south west interconnected system since March 2021, for which
Synergy is the purchaser of excess generation.
(b) Since March
2021, 592 megawatts have been commissioned or are being commissioned for
commencement in October 2024, as per the market capacity cycle. These
facilities include the 76-megawatts Flat
Rocks wind farm; the 12-megawatts Collgar wind farm expansion; the 219- megawatts
Collie battery energy system stage 1; the 120-megawatts Cunderdin solar farm;
the 55-megawatts Cunderdin battery energy storage system; the 100-megawatts
Wagerup battery energy storage system; and the 10-megawatts Wagerup gas
facility expansion.
(2) (a) Synergy
is committed to the connection of 410 megawatts of wind and 1 100 megawatts of
storage by 2029, including the projects listed above. Additional committed
projects include the Collie battery energy storage system stage 1 and the King
Rocks wind farm and Warradarge stage 2. The state government has also committed
to 400 megawatts of wind generation for the Water Corporation by 2029.
(b) Committed
non-Synergy capacity entering at 1 October 2025 is 461 megawatts. These
facilities include the 341-megawatts Collie
battery energy storage system stages 1 and 2 and the 120-megawatts EnelX
Demand Response Services. The Australian Energy Market Operator's capacity market procurement process occurs annually
on three-year cycles. The current capacity cycle is underway for the
capacity year commencing 1 October 2026. Outcomes of this procurement will be
announced in November 2024.
