I refer to acts of vandalism and
desecration of war memorials, or memorials that commemorate past wars, and ask: (a) how many acts of vandalism or desecration of war
memorials were reported to the WA Police Force for each of the years 2013, 2014,
2015, 2016, 2017 and as of 5 November 2018; (b) how many people were charged by the WA Police Force
for acts of vandalism or desecration of war memorials for each of the years
2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and as of 5 November 2018; (c) how many people
were successfully prosecuted in the courts for acts of vandalism or desecration
of war memorials for each of the years 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and as of 5
November 2018; and (d) of those successfully prosecuted, what was the heaviest
sentence imposed and what was the minimum sentence imposed for acts of
vandalism or desecration of war memorials for each of the years 2013, 2014,
2015, 2016, 2017 and as of 5 November 2018?

Data is provisional and subject to revision. Figures are of incidents reported to or becoming known to police between 01 January 2013 and 05 November 2018. Vandalism and desecration offences types included in the analysis are: ‘Graffiti’, ‘Property Damage’ and ‘Stealing’ offences. Incidents involving war memorials were identified by conducting a text search of the incident narratives with the terms ‘War Memorial’, ‘ANZAC Memorial’ and ‘RSL Memorial’. Multiple offenders may be processed for the same incident.
