The Perth Darwin Highway is a National Highway Project and is therefore the funding responsibility of the Federal Government.
The Liberal-National Government has recently lobbied the Federal Labor Government to commit to funding the Perth Darwin Highway as a priority. This request was rejected. However the Liberal-National Government has invested $8m in planning and project development to ensure that once funded by the Federal Government, the project can begin without delay. This work is required as the previous Labor State Government did not undertake any planning at any stage between 2001 and 2008.
