IN-VITRO FERTILISATION, PRIORITIES
Given the Government’s intention to amend the Western Australian reproductive technology laws to allow lesbian couples access to in-vitro fertilisation, and given the current nine-month waiting time, can the Premier advise whether medically infertile couples will be given priority over “socially infertile” same-sex couples? Dr GALLOP

The Leader of the Opposition has come into the Parliament to try to stir up some trouble against minority groups in the community. As far as this side of the House is concerned, it does not matter who people are, where they live, what is their racial background or what is their sexual orientation, we will make sure they have equal rights in Western Australia. Mr Carpenter: It is about time. Dr GALLOP: As the Minister for Education said, it is about time. The Leader of the Opposition ought to know, from the speech made and comments by the Attorney General, that the concept of social infertility will not be the basis of access to in-vitro fertilisation.
