Port Hedland Ambient Air Quality Network—Air monitoring
158. Hon Julie Freeman to
the Minister for the Environment:
I refer to the Port
Hedland Ambient Air Quality Network managed by the Port Hedland Industries
Council (PHIC) until its transfer to the Department of Water and Environmental
Regulation on 1 January 2022, noting that annual air monitoring reports were
published by PHIC up to the handover but none have been released since.
(1) What is the reason that no air
monitoring reports have been released since the transition to DWER?
(2) When will the outstanding reports be
published?

I thank the member
for some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) The Department of Water and Environmental
Regulation has prioritised finalising its regulatory approach to managing dust
impacts in Port Hedland. Annual reporting is being updated to align with that
regulatory approach and ensure an improved version of reporting. In the
interim, the department has advised me that there is a live feed of data on the
department's website and that historic monitoring data can be downloaded by the
public. The department anticipates publication of the reports in mid to late 2026.
