Medicinal Cannabis and Safe Driving Working Group
1020. Hon Dr Brian Walker to the parliamentary
secretary representing the Minister for Health:
I refer the minister
to the latest research, published in Clinical
Toxicology , suggesting that pupil dilation alone cannot be relied upon
as a measure of cannabis impairment.
(1) Did the minister's department alert the
minister to this latest research undertaken by scientists at the University of
Colorado, published last month and, if not, why not?
(2) Having had the research brought to her
attention here in Parliament, will the minister undertake to circulate it to
relevant agencies and, again, if not, why not?
(3) Can I take this opportunity to ask for an
update on the progress of the working group into tetrahydrocannabinol driving,
which sits within the minister's purview and is it still on track to deliver
its recommendations before the end of the calendar year?
