(1)-(2) The Forest Heritage Centre is a very important centre, and it now comes under the Department of Education and Training and will be operated by the Department of Education and Training. The Forest Heritage Centre has a very important role. It is certainly something that I am getting used to. The Forest Heritage Centre focuses on fine woodwork and the promotion of forest products. Within the state of Western Australia there is, in my view, enormous opportunity for this facility to operate as not only a potential tourist facility, but also a facility that will train young and not-so-young people in fine woodwork. Hon Kim Chance : It does an excellent job. Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH : As Hon Kim Chance has said, it does an excellent job. I will take the capital works element of the question on notice. I can actually see a future in which there would be trainers, artists or craftsmen in residence, and I can envision perhaps short-stay accommodation units that would facilitate people staying there for two or three weeks with the pure intent of upskilling in furniture making, fine woodcrafting, etc. I think the centre has a very bright future indeed as an asset and a training facility, and it is certainly one that I will be looking to promote. I think it can actually blend the best of both worlds. It can be an excellent training facility. However, I also think it can be - as it is - a very good tourist attraction. Certainly I will be looking to maximise both those opportunities in order to promote fine wood products and fine wood product crafts. COURTHOUSE AND POLICE COMPLEX - CARNARVON 428. Hon KEN BASTON to the minister representing the Minister for Police and Emergency Services: I refer to the community information forum, which included representatives from the WA Police and the Department of the Attorney General and was held in Carnarvon on 25 May 2006 to discuss the future of the Carnarvon courthouse and police station. (1) What was the outcome of the forum? (2) Has any decision been made about the location of the new courthouse and police complex; if not, why not, and when is a decision anticipated; and, if yes, where and when will these facilities be relocated, and what factors determined the choice of sites? Hon KIM CHANCE replied: On behalf of the minister representing the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1) WA Police and the Department of the Attorney General are continuing to negotiate an appropriate site to construct the new police and justice complex. (2) No decision has been made. It is expected a decision will be made by the end of this financial year. That is in a few days’ time.
