ALCOHOL PURCHASE RESTRICTIONS
210. Mrs A.K. HAYDEN to the Premier:
I
have a supplementary question. Considering that the government is unable to
stop the unlimited delivery of alcohol to WA homes from the eastern
states, why are our local liquor suppliers and our mum-and-dad local producers
not given the same opportunities?

As I said, under section 92 of the
commonwealth Constitution, we cannot overcome this. The overwhelming majority
of liquor purchases in Western Australia come from bottle shops or bottle shops
attached to hotels. That is where I would expect at least 95 per cent of liquor
purchases in Western Australia take place. We have done our best with this,
certainly taking into account the constitutional limitations that are in place.
As I indicated, nothing in this environment that any government does is
perfect. We are doing our best in a difficult situation.
The SPEAKER : That is the end
of question time.
