On behalf of the minister representing the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, I thank the Hon Ray Halligan for some notice of this question. It is a somewhat lengthy and detailed answer. I table the answer and seek leave to have the material incorporated into Hansard . Leave granted. [See paper 2140.] The following material was incorporated - I thank the Hon. Member for some notice of this question. (1) The total Authorised Strength (FTE) for police officers in the North Metropolitan Region (Central Metropolitan District, North West Metropolitan District and West Metropolitan District) is outlined in the table below: North Metropolitan Region Districts Police Officers Authorised Strength (FTE) 30 June 2006 Aboriginal Police Liaison Officers (FTE) as at 30 June 2006 Central Metropolitan District 434.6 9.0 North West Metropolitan District 266.0 6.0 West Metropolitan District 299.0 6.0 Total 999.6 21.0 The Office of the Regional Coordinator and the Metropolitan Regional Support Division Authorised Strengths are not included in the North Metropolitan Region Districts. (2) There were 50 Police Officers and 2 Aboriginal Police Liaison Officers stationed in the North Metropolitan Region who resigned during 2005-06. This figure only represents those police officers who resigned and does not include any other separation reason such as retirement, medical retirement, deceased or dismissed. (3) The Commissioner of Police allocates the additional staffing resources in accordance with agency priorities. For the Metropolitan Region, the Resource Allocation Model is then used to determine police staffing allocations to districts. Allocations of the additional police officers to Districts from the 350 Program occur throughout the financial year. When made, the District Superintendents then determine allocations within their districts to police stations. It is thus not possible to advise at this time what allocations will be for the 2006-07 financial year. (4) Vacancies in approved positions are filled as soon as possible in accordance with agency priorities. The WA Police Academy recruit courses cover both the additional police referred to in (3) above and attrition replacement.
