The Department of Communities (Communities) was formed from Department of Child Protection and Family Support, the Department of Housing (including Housing Authority), Disability Services Commission, the Communities component of the Department of Local Government and Communities, the Regional Services Reform Unit, and the Regional coordination and engagement component of the Department of Aboriginal Affairs.
(a) The appointment of a single Director General through the formation of the Department of Communities has resulted in savings of around $750,000 in each financial year.
(b) Communities utilised the 2017-18 Voluntary Targeted Separation Scheme to achieve efficiencies in the amalgamated Department. The total gross savings for abolished positions for the period 2017-18 to 2021-22 is $134,652,295.
(c) I table the attached list of abolished position titles for individuals who accepted a voluntary severance.
(d) The only additional position created as a direct result of the amalgamation of previous government departments and the creation of the Department of Communities is the position of Director-General, Department of Communities.
