TAXIS — DRIVER PENALTY POINT SYSTEM
122. Hon KEN TRAVERS to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the Minister for Transport's announcement
on 14 April 2011 that the government planned to introduce a demerit point
system and probation for taxidrivers and the subsequent advice that these
measures would require legislative changes.
(1) When does
the minister expect legislation to be introduced to the Parliament to allow for
the demerit point system and probation for taxidrivers?
(2) When does
the minister expect these measures to be implemented?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question. The Department of Transport advises —
(1) Mid-2013.
(2) The
transition period will commence within six to 12 months of the bill being
passed. The taxidriver penalty point system will commence following the
six-month transition period.
