PUBLIC TRANSPORT — SENIORS
1310. Hon MARTIN PRITCHARD to the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Transport:
I refer to the extension of free public transport for seniors to allow
them to travel for free after 7.00 pm until 6.00 am on weekdays from 1 July
this year.
(1) What figures can the Minister for Transport provide for the take-up
by seniors of this concession?
(2) Have there been any increases in the
number of security officers, or allocation of lines for security officers, to
accommodate this change?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question.
(1) Since the 1 July 2015 extension of free
public transport for seniors between 7.00 pm until 6.00 am on weekdays, 40 624
journeys have been taken by seniors.
(2) With respect to Transperth bus services, Transperth already maintains a heavy
presence of security services for its evening and night-time services.
Therefore, no additional security measures are being introduced as a result of
this strategy, noting that no additional trips or services are being provided.
As to Transperth train services, noting again that no
additional trips or services are being provided, the Public Transport AuthorityXXX ###XXXs current complement of transit officers,
who are rostered across the urban rail network and are assisted by contracted
MSS Security revenue protection staff, will continue to provide a significant
security presence on board trains and at train stations each day.
