Hon Tom Stephens asks about government contributions to transmission line infrastructure in the West Kimberley, referencing a draft policy on connecting regional communities to the electricity grid. Hon N.F. Moore responds that the government will not contribute, as the draft policy is not yet adopted and the preferred bidder's proposal doesn't require substantial infrastructure.

I refer to the Office of Energy’s draft policy for the connection of Western Australia’s regional and remote communities to Western Power’s regional electricity supply systems. The draft proposes equity between regional and metropolitan communities, notes the importance of electricity as an essential service to regional and remote communities and states that “expansion of Government policy of funding infrastructure will include electricity lines”. What does the Government propose to contribute for transmission line infrastructure for the west Kimberley? Hon N.F. MOORE

I thank the member for some notice of this question. The Government will not make any contribution to the transmission line infrastructure. The discussion document “Policy for the Connection of Western Australia’s Regional and Remote Communities to Western Power’s Regional Electricity Supply Systems” does not represent government policy, as it has not yet been considered and adopted by the Government. In relation to power requirements for the west Kimberley, the proposal of the preferred bidder, Energy Equity-Woodside Energy, does not require any substantial transmission line infrastructure.
