The Western Australian Government has a strong commitment to assisting younger people with disability have age appropriate accommodation options available to them. In 2013 the Western Australian Government committed $9 million over 4 years to address the issue of younger people with disability aged less than 65 years having appropriate housing options.  The model of care is varied according to each person’s support needs, with the option to share with others or live independently. (a) Information regarding people residing in residential aged facilities is held by the Commonwealth Government.  Access to this information is limited to periodic reports provided by the Commonwealth Government. The reports that can be accessed do not detail diagnosis, hence details on residents with an acquired brain injury are not  available. The Disability Services Commission (the Commission) can provide information only regarding individuals who have made contact with the Commission themselves or through a third party. The Commission is currently aware of 14 people under the age of 60 years who have an acquired brain injury and who are receiving residential care in a nursing home setting: • 20 – 30 years = 1 • 30 – 40 years = 0 • 40 – 50 years = 6 • 50 – 60 years = 7
