OAKAJEE PORT DEVELOPMENT
I refer to the current edition of Prospect magazine in which comments by the Geraldton port chief executive were reported as follows - He said Oakajee was vital to the growth of the region and would trigger significant development within the Mid West’s iron ore province. “We think Oakajee is an essential development for the Mid West iron ore industry to be fully developed and capitalise on international demand for iron ore and particularly the growing demand from China,” . . . (1) Were the shared rail and deepwater port discussed at a ministerial committee meeting this week? (2) If so, what were the outcomes of those discussions, and when can we expect an announcement on the new rail system and deepwater port? Hon KIM CHANCE

(1)-(2) I thank Hon Brian Ellis for some notice of this question. I have not seen the article that Hon Brian Ellis refers to and I regret that the question asks me to reveal what has happened in a subcommittee of the cabinet that reports to the Premier in cabinet, and as such cannot be revealed in this place.
